Looking for help estimating value of Tahitians!

I should add that I don't know about the last photo. There is something I don't like about the flatness of color/lustre...but that could be just the photo.

Looking for help estimating value of Tahitians!

The first two are not tahitian due to shape, color and general appearance. The second may even be irradiated baroque akoyas as they seem to have that characteristic purpley color -- though usually it is the round ones that are color-treated in this way, so more likely, #2 is freshwater. The...

Women in power II: a new wave of pearl fashion?

If you are looking at the Tahitian quality scale (which is fairly well-standardized), D's are quite unusual. The pearl must be so blemished that there are flaws covering more than 60% of the pearls surface. In other words, the flaws actually take over the pearl. From your photo, I don't see...

Women in power II: a new wave of pearl fashion?

Nice strands, ladies. I am a little partial to the baroque strand, though. The colors are phenomenal! In terms of blemishes, I have never met a Tahitian I didn't like. (Well, ok...someone sold me a B-C lot that had some rather sorry looking C-- pearls in it. Some of these were unusable and...

My first South Sea pearls earrings!

Oh, it is strictly a matter of personal preference...I am not suggesting that there is anything wrong with her gold. 22k has a characteristic color...unfortunately it reminds me a lot of the far less extravagant vermeil. Though I should consider using some in my work...I really like the bali...

My first South Sea pearls earrings!

Very nice! Her gold always looks unusual to me. What is it, exactly? Does she cast in 22k herself?

Women in Power: Finding Balance In the Wardrobe

And I believe I've seen Hillary with a strand of baroque tahitians. Did anyone else remember seeing these?

    More of my Favourites

That's what I was thinking. Care Ehret has a strand that looks similar on ebay (without the spacers).

Chinese Freshwater vs. Tahitian: A new threat?

What ever happened to the distinction "Tahiti Black Pearls" and "Black Pearls of Tahiti" as the only correct way to advertise Pearls from Tahiti? I rarely see that anymore. Now technically, a seller could call his/her pearls Tahitian black pearls and not be misrepresenting. Yet, reputable...

Chinese Freshwater vs. Tahitian: A new threat?

Check out this photo from seller #1 in above post. Sold a while back. Very similar pearl with lower end pearl clasp billed as peacock colored akoyas... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330077531801 hmm...

Chinese Freshwater vs. Tahitian: A new threat?

Here are two. The first link is definitely a bit off-round and describes as such. The second one...note suspicious picture of store that's "moving" and a large inventory of necklaces that would ordinarily sell for 10x the ask if as described. I would never bid on either, but the color (if...

Chinese Freshwater vs. Tahitian: A new threat?

Any thing new going on with freshwater blacks? Any thing new going on with freshwater blacks? Is anything new happening with freshwater black pearls - treated or not treated? It used to be you could spot a freshwater being passed off as a tahitan really easily. But in the last year or...

    Please evaluate my purchase

This looks like a piece sold by someone abroad, like ES_store. Is the clasp marked 18kgp? The barrel shape suggests color-treated freshwater in my humble opinion.
