Christie's Auction catalogues - full of pearls

I agree, Christies has great photos. I looked around online to see if I could checkout any photos from these auctions and I found some video highlights from an October 2008 Dubai sale. About halfway through the video they show some amazing pearls...

    Curious ad from Tiffany's

That is downright obnoxious. Unfortunately it is engrained in many souls psyche's they must have Tiffany's or Tiffany's pearls for that matter. If it doesn't come in that Tiffany's blue box, it just isn't up to snuff. Hopefully in this economy prices like Tiffany's will be a wake up call...

    Interesting Story from Indonesia

Interesting article. When I heard this story I thought of Ocean Spray for some reason, which formed as a cranberry cooperative in Massachusetts back in 1930. This cooperative started with just three cranberry bog farmers and is now the self proclaimed number one brand of juice in the United...

Are these really South Sea Baroques?

Thank you Ramona. You can definitely see the difference right? The South Sea baroques are quite fascinating and the South Seas in the photo I posted are particularly large as well (up to 16mm in the center). We don't specifically carry the baroque South Seas in our online store (other than...

Are these really South Sea Baroques?

Baroque South Seas look more like the attached photo. The pics from the eBay listing definitely appear to be freshwater. Notice the difference between the eBay pics and the one I attached. I also noticed they removed the "South Sea" portion on the eBay listing.

Interesting Article out of Australia this Morning

I think the point is without a doubt what demand exists today is being created by online retailers/buyers moreso than people shopping in B&M shops due to the value an online shop provides - in the pearl market. A b&m simply can't compete in the pearl market in just about every department from...

Interesting Article out of Australia this Morning

My thoughts were in general about what little demand is out there is being driven by online sales as opposed to the brick and mortar shops beating up customers on price.

Interesting Article out of Australia this Morning

I think online retailers are grabbing a tremendous share of the demand that remains out there and will continue to do so as more people decide to buy pearls online. This is certainly where the best value is found.

Interesting Article out of Australia this Morning

Yes, I see the conflict in the $ estimates over the past couple of years ($140M vs. $125M) but not sure of other contradictions in the article. There are a couple of quotes that may be of differing opinions but statements like "perilous state", "diabolical trouble", "pessimistic", "desparate...

Interesting Article out of Australia this Morning

Demand appears still to be pretty strong in the U.S. but sounds like the Australian producers are starting to feel some of the effects of the economic situation. Any comments? Industry is reeling as pearls lose their lustre 12th January 2009, 8:00 WST WA?s lucrative pearling industry ...

My first pearl photo (out of many, hopefully!)

Excellent photo. I think the natural look is great and a fantastic contrast with green of the leaf against the Tahitian. Well done, we look forward to seeing more shots.
