We traveled to Shanxiahu independently a few years ago and perhaps by dumb luck everything turned out great. We stayed at an awesome 5 star hotel in Shaoxing and then traveled by taxi to get to the pearl market. The taxi was not super great, but considering Chinese taxi prices, not super awful. However, we've decided we want to stay closer and there is a dearth of English information (at least that I've found so far) to find the closest hotels and/or bus options from nearby cities. The information on the pearl market website also seems outdated. I prefer to remain independent, especially as we are small fish in the pond and just want to go by our own schedule.
Can anyone recommend a hotel within a fifteen minute taxi ride or 30 minute bus ride of the market? Or how we would travel by bus from a nearby town (though I suppose we could suss that out from the reception at the hotel)?
I'm also curious as to whether there is some sort of overview guide or directory of the market. It was again by dumb luck that we found ourselves in the exact spot we wanted. I also wonder if the food options have expanded whatsoever? There was one snack stand when we were there, with crackers, ramen, and tea.
Finally, it would be awesome to tour a pearl farm. Any recommendations for that?
