Will The Koru Pearl Bring Luck to New Zealand?

Roger Beattie of Eyris Blue Pearls and Jacek Pawlowski of Blue Pearls Gallery have collaborated again on a special project in conjunction with the Miss World Pageant and Karla de Beer, 2016 Miss World New Zealand.

Roger Beattie is the creator of Eyris Blue Pearls and a master pearl farmer. Eyris blue pearls capture the riot of color and iridescence that make the Paua abalone shell so desirable. The name Eyris reflects the link between the natural beauty of the human eye and the unique beauty of each blue pearl.

This silver fern is a New Zealand icon, an unfurling frond known to the indigenous Maori people as the Koru. The koru symbolizes new life, growth and strength and is interpreted to resemble a mother embracing her child.

Miss World 2016
Miss World looks for female role models, judging beauty, charity work, public speaking, fitness and more. The pageant will be held in Washington DC on December 20th, 2016.

Education
Karla graduated from the University of Auckland with a double major in Psychology and English. She is interested in helping others and would like to become a clinical psychologist. She is currently working in human resources as a learning and development trainer.

Charity work
Karla loves the outdoors and has a huge soft spot for horses, having ridden since she was 12, her chosen charity was naturally New Zealand Riding for the Disabled. Karla has loved being a part of the Totara Park Riding for the Disabled club, getting involved with learning how to practically deal with the problems children with physical and mental disabilities face, and how to help them improve on the skills they need to overcome these difficulties.

Karla’s Beauty with a Purpose work focuses on children and families, as this is the safe haven from which all growth starts. The nurture we receive as children molds us into the adults we become, so giving all children the means to a brighter future is a theme she wanted to integrate into the Charity gift piece.

Jacek Pawlowski – Blue Pearls Gallery
Jacek is a master jeweller who Roger Beattie has worked with on several charity projects for Miss World pageants. He designed and handcrafted the Koru Pearl pendant after discussion with the team at Eyris Pearls. It features a stunning Eyris Gem grade blue pearl set in a 14ct gold and sterling silver pendant.

The Gift
This piece gifted by Eyris Pearls and Blue Pearls Gallery will be donated by Karla for the Miss World Children’s Charity Auction - Beauty with a Purpose – Helping Children Worldwide at the Miss World pageant in Washington DC, USA in December 2016.
