What kind of pearls are these and what might their value be?

I inherited these from my Grandmother and am curious to learn about them. The box and certificate is Ciro of Bond Street, purchased in 1964. The pearls are gritty when rubbed. The smallest in the strings is 4mm and the largest is 10mm.

Granny loved her pearls and looked so elegant when she wore them.

What a lovely thing to inherit from your grandmother, as well as the memory of her wearing them.

Your close up photo is a little out of focus, but the pearls appear to be cultured akoya pearls. Akoyas are saltwater pearls.

Will you want to wear them? If so I recommend cleaning them and restringing them. You wouldn't want to risk losing any if worn-out silk broke.

I can't attest to the pearl type but they pearls and the clasp are amazing! I agree with the others - definitely get it re-strung and wear it proudly & with love!
