What kind of pearl is this?

Hello,

New member here. I'm researching to buy myself a pearl necklace. I'd love one with high lustre and orient. I have this pearl from my childhood (actually got in Disney World in one of those pearl diving places) and it is nicer than my inherited Mikimoto strands and then the metallic freshadama earrings I recently bought myself. In the photo you see the pearl in the ring next to the metallic pearl earring. What kind of pearl is my ring? It has a very slightly rippled texture, but I really do mean slight when I say it. It has a stunning reflection and color in person. I'd love a strand like this.

Thank you.

The pearl in the ring looks like a baroque pearl. Is this the one from Sea World? A few decades ago, they used akoya pearls and the luster was usually great, although the shape and color were variable.

I would start by looking at baroque akoya pearls and blue baroque akoya pearls. Then, there are Chinese freshwater "ripple" pearls that might also have the orient you are seeing in your pearl ring. Here is an example of white baroque akoya pearls, The neck shots are at the top of this page: https://www.pearl-guide.com/forum/s...e-Akoya-Strand/page2&highlight=baroque+akoyas

Thank you. It was Disney in Florida, 35 years ago! My pearl is round, but the nacre is not perfectly smooth. The color is incredible in person, a beige-ish with rainbow iridescence and it’s also very metallic looking. I’d love a strand of pearls like that, but when I look up Baroque or rippled pearls, none look round like the one in my ring.

I really want a strand I won’t regret and so I’m willing to put in time for research. Ideally I’d love a two strand graduated necklace and a single strand of larger pearls. My two Mikimoto don’t hold a candle to the pearl on this ring. I have the original receipt, but it doesn’t list the grade of pearl in them.

A strand like your description would be very hard to find, maybe impossible. I agree that you should wait for what makes your heart sing and not settle for something else. Pearls like these often end up in rings or pendants because they are too hard to match into a strand.

I would browse antique stores and pawn shops to see if you can find something similar. That might be fun! In the meantime, hang around here and have a look at the older posts. :)

Thanks.

Aside from Pearl Paradise, are there any other reputable sellers online you all would suggest. Neither have a huge selection.

I would suggest Kojima Pearl if you are looking for baroques. Sarah is wonderful!
