Hey all

This is the dumbest question ever. If a pearl has like, an "appendage" can you grind that down or would it look like garbage? Just wondering. :)

Thank you!!!!

Usually, you need to put that spot where it can't show, like where an earring post is drilled or in a pendant cap. :)

You are amazing. Thanks for your quickness!!! So you can't just like file it? What would happen if you did?

It would leave a blank spot. Dull white, most probably, depending on the color of the pearl.

Of course you can file them down. Just figure out a way to put the dull spot so it isn't on top where it will show. :)

Oh! GG = Blaire, but Pattye is usually very fast and accurate, so I'll take that as a compliment.

It's not dumb ... sometimes there are great pearls except for that one irritating little nub ... just file it..drill it..cover it with a bead cap .. !

I'm trying to make a bracelet. :/ I love the ssp graduated color necklace at mikimoto, so I'm trying to do a low class version of that. :p

One thing you can do is use a metal rondelle station that the pearl can fit into to hide the filed down portion. Think of it as an end cap without the end...so it would sit nestled between two pearls. Something like this: https://www.pearlparadise.com/p-91-diamond-rondelle-14k-gold.aspx

And side note, with the PP sale, this seems to be an excellent price!

I hadn't thought about rondelles!! Well I have a bunch of OK looking ssps from Pearl_Society coming, so hopefully I can figure something out. Otherwise I'll make a bunch of pendants and flip em or something. Also I was on mobile before but the necklace I have been OBSESSED over is here: http://www.mikimotoamerica.com/golden-south-sea-cultured-pearl-gradient-necklace

I saw it when I went to get my earrings appraised (another ebay score, wooot) and I was like, WANT THAT but I uhhh don't have 47k lying around for a necklace (that was the cheap version too, the one I linked is way way more. So yeah I am doing the "ghetto" version of that in bracelet form, at least I hope I can make it work. Those diamond rondelles are way hot but I think I would need so many that it would bump my costs like, waaaaay too high. :)

TahitianDreamin ... I could see a bracelet done with a y shape, dangling end like the Mikimoto, using one of those PP diamond rondelles as the "loop" ... :)
