UK Hallmarking up for discussion

Hard to believe they would ever do such a thing! By the way, if anyone needs a great book on hallmarks, this is the best one available today. The authors managed a labor of love, travelling all over the world. I'm sure they wouldn't want to see hallmarks abolished. :)

There is nothing to be gained, and much to be lost, if hallmarking were scrapped.

I don't live in the UK, but if I could not be sure that I was buying precious metal of a specific karat or percent, I would buy my jewelry elsewhere.

hurrah, it is a great relief!.
It is a bit of a faff to send something up for assay when you have just one commission item but the turn-around is usually only a day or so. (my mark is wmg in an oval, like an egyptian cartouche!) and when I made some rings with some spots of 14ct gold onto the main silver it came back marked sterling silver + metal!
But there is a huge satisfaction to see my mark on something.

No kidding!
I hope you are not only satisfied, but proud. I have watched your website growing in size and complexity and I am really impressed! I now have a grasp of your dedication and ambition and hope you just keep growing. I wish you the best in your further endeavors!
