My girlfriend has put in a request for a long, double strand of pearls. I'll be going to the Frank Cox show next month to pick out the pearls and was hoping yall could give some advice as to the length and what your favorite double clasp would be....OR, would you do a single clasp for her to double the strand?

I'm thinking a single strand clasp would allow her to choose the length of the strands as they hang, but wouldn't they change over the evening?

I thought about a mystery clasp, but don't have the means to drill the big holes.

What is the traditional length for an opera strand? Thanks! Dana

Hi Dana,

According to our own PP, opera length is 26-36 inches. Thirty six is perfect to double! I vote for one long strand with single clasp. Mine don't seem to shift that much, besides its kinda fun to play with the pearls a little while one is wearing them!

Mmm... a 36 inch strand is high on my wish list! But I did try on a 50 inch strand of tahitians at the gem fair last month and it was just yummy! I also vote for a long single strand. It will give her many options on how she wears it.

Your g/f hasn't given you an idea of what she wants? All she has to do is point to where she wants the necklace to fall. A single or double clasp would be her preference, too. If you are just asking our opinions, 24" is long to me and I would put each strand on single strand clasps so I could wear them together or separate. I'd also knot them at different lengths one at 24" and one at 23".
