Hi Caitlin,

This auction by this very seller is coming up every once in a while for years. I guess it is like offering a book of matches for US$10,000. If anybody is stupid enough to buy that, the profit margin makes it worthwile. Or maybe he is comparison shopping at Mikimoto.

isn't that nice how the insurance appraisal came out to exactly $10,000. Hey Caitlin if you don't buy it, I will ;)

Well, their Site claims they are appraisers for the Wall Street Journal and that they deal in rare collectibles. I would certainly want to see certification that the pearls are naturals for those prices. The fact that the auction has absolutely no information tells me that they do not know anything about what they are selling. I am not really sold on the "hand made" clasp either. It looks very familiar to me...

But Jeremy, don't you know that they stamp them by hand in Indian sweat shops? I think the clasps sell for something like US$17 at Rio Grande, but they may have yanked up the price since the latest gold price increases.
