Hi, I'm hoping that someone can give me some information about these pearls. I know that they're not "good" pearls, but I do like them anyway and would really like to know how they got to be that strange sharp shape!

They average about 2cm in length although obviously they vary quite a bit, and most are a bit rough in parts while others are very iridescent with no "faults" or rough bits.

If I need to give any further information please let me know, and thanks in advance. :)

I know that compared to most of the pearls here they're kind of ugly and misshapen, but I'd still like to know more about them please. Are they cultured or natural, are they dyed? etc Any answers would be really appreciated, thank you ;)

Hi. These came out about four or five years ago and I called them comet pearls - head and a tail. They also got called tadpole pearls. I suspect they were early attempts at bead nucleation as you can clearly see the bead or beads in the head of the pearl with a nacre tail. As bead nuke techniques improve they have disappeared, so are becoming a rarity (though they were very cheap at the time, just a few $ a strand.) I had some which were even something like 5cm! Stil have a few in stock

Oh yes, forgot that - they just about all came dyed in every colour you could think of. I did a bracelet with some really huge purple ones which even got into Vogue! I felt a bit warrior princess when wearing it!

OK. I want a 4ft long necklace of natural pearls- they can be tiny!

Come on, it has been long standing policy to reveal your wares, when someone asks. It's the PM's with solicitations and seller-initiated solicitations that are frowned upon.

Funny you should mention that. I have one -- it's Edwardian, when such lengths were worn.

Hi, and thanks for the replies, although I don't actually own these.... they were on ebay and I was tempted as I did like them but I was outbid. They went for ?15 in the end, I might have bid more but was put off by the seller saying they were threaded on elastic, which I assumed was a sign that they were probably very bad quality.
Your necklace is stunning pearlescence! very lovely indeed! :)

I quoted the price they went for out of interest only, and to be factual (I felt uncomfortable that people thought they were mine when they were not, it felt as though I had lied when that was not my intention)

Now that I have seen that I can buy them by the strand I probably will make my own, thank you for the links to your site, you have some beautiful pearls! :)
