All I can think of, is the poor oyster, lugging that huge irritation around for however many years it took to layer all those layers of nacre. (I know, they dont really move a lot... but still....)

All that certainly does make one think of the issuer: must have been a mollusk of both tremendous stature and considerable patience, methinks No wonder the pearl got named after the latest US presidential campaign ...
Pendant? Certainly... one of the seascapes of Schepps would be a great fit. Or it could become the belly of a sea-monster [it has been known to happen to better pearls]. Or even something rather more in step with the times. Now that the pearl has graced every news-making spigot, perhaps the setting could restore the owner's privilege of privacy [tough job, but possible, methinks].
