Arugh! I've just made my 3rd pearl purchase in 1.5 weeks, and I really need to be stopped!!! I have been really, really wanting something Sea of Cortez, but can't at all afford the prices for any round(or even semi-round) pearls. I had been browsing Etsy when I stumbled across this : https://www.etsy.com/transaction/100774342, and I just HAD to have it. I was literally dreaming about it. I've been wanting to add a pearl ring to my collection (currently have pendants, one tahitian bracelet, and several pairs of earrings, and awaiting one keshi strand, but no ring). I had been a little wary of a pearl ring in that it seems as if the pearls could get quite beat up in a ring setting, but it's such a lovely way to be able to admire your pearls while you are wearing them! (unlike earrings, necklaces, and pendants which I love to wear but don't get to see while I'm wearing them!!) I never even thought of a mabe...such a nice shape for a ring, a little flatter and less projectile as to be more wearer friendly, and the colors on this one look so beautiful, I hope it looks half as nice in person! Now I'll just sit here and torture myself with the pictures until it arrives. If I even MENTION making another pearl purchase sometime soon, please somebody stop me!!!

Gorgeous ring! I can see why you fell for it!

I don't browse Etsy. Ebay is bad enough! :p

There are such wonderful advantages of on-line shopping, but though we save money it sure drains the account pretty fast. I find I spend money in waves. Then the cost has to be covered. If you really feel you buy too often, you might want to make a project of saving up for something really special. Then everytime you feel the urge you measure it against your ultimate goal of a much more expensive item - just as Lisa C is doing with being determined to make it to the ruckus.

The ring is lovely! I really want a pearl ring too,but I've bought other pearls resently and still have a stunning Kasumi pearl from the tiara stash that is begging to be set. Maybe I can make that setting my goal :)

Thanks Karin, I've been feeling sheepish, wondering if I should take those posts down, but what the heck, PearlGuide is a fluid-exchange kind of place. Plus, it feels lonely saying no to myself. Oh well, eyes on the prize! It'll be worth it :)

Maia, the ring looks substantial, and beautiful!

The ring is really lovely..it's hard to pass these things up. I found myself buying all sorts of pearls and supplies thinking .. ah that's a good deal..its just 40$ 20$ 30$ ... but when you are doing that every day...the end of the month can be a bit of a shock! LOL Internet shopping is pretty addictive! That said, you bought something that you had on your 'pearl bucket list' so it's not just a random buy. But, maybe don't look for a few weeks lol!

That is the best possible pearl to put in a ring, IMHO! I don't see that many SoC pearl rings,so it was probably good to grab it!

Gorgeous pearl, gorgeous setting. Please send us a picture when you receive it. You will have a very unique piece soon.

Maiakitty, I can see why you splurged on that when it's so lovely and rare!

I have absolutely no room to talk, lol, but husband and I have a happy understanding that I pretty much buy my own presents. So, er, I have Christmas, our anniversary and maybe Valentine's Day covered and no guilt. :)

Also, I go with mostly not top grade and freshwater for now. Or sometimes settle for just the earrings or bracelet rather than strands. I stay semi-out-of-trouble but still get to enjoy with a more steady stream of less expensive goodies that way.

If that's any help at all... I hope you post it when you get it. That one really is so special. :)

Thanks everybody...I feel a little less guilty, and I AM really in love with the ring. I just have been spending more than I should be lately, and there are some major expenditures that we need to make around here before winter (not to mention, I have a new baby coming in Februrary!), so I'm feeling like I should be a little more frugal than I have been. I just really felt the need to jump on this one because it was OOAK, and it wasn't like I could go back and order it later when I was feeling like I could justify it more financially (like those Lavendar metallic beauties you have coming to you Sea Urchin...I will have them too someday!!). I kept having visions of popping on Etsy to view it once again and seeing it listed as SOLD, I just couldn't bear it. So...I will definately post pics when it arrives, I hope that I'm not disappointed with it in person! (And if it's half as pretty as the pics, I won't suspect I will be :))

I sympathize with you, but you made a great compromise in buying a mabe. You'll find that it may shift from silver to blue to mauve in different lighting. Caitlin can vouch for this, as her earrings are amazing color-shifters, but with a ring, you can see it to enjoy the effects. Just don't go too wild when driving! Enjoy!!!

Another wonderful way to justify your pearl purchase is to say that this beautiful organic gem is a present from your new baby to remind you of him/her.
