As I am recovering from the terrible awful pearl stud failure event, I'm finding myself cautiously proceeding with ordering new glue and increasing my inventory of posts.

However, in looking over the posts I DO have, I've noticed the length of the part that goes 'into' the half-drilled pearl, varies.

I've been looking at Bella and there are quite some variations for the 'male' part. These suckers look HUGE http://www.bellafindings.com/jewels...istCategoriesAndProducts.asp?idCategory=17834

I'm wondering if they would be too long...

I think this is what I've ordered in the past. http://www.bellafindings.com/jewels..._viewItem.asp?idProduct=9322&idCategory=17798

It's hard to tell from the pictures. Can someone suggest which would be most likely to work well with a 9.5 mm pearl? Thank you!

I would go with medium weight for 9.5 mm pearls (around $15 per pair for posts and friction backs). Stay away from the light weight for that size. You definitely don't need to go with heavy weight for something as small as 9.5. I usually start using them after 11 mm.

The really lightweight ones that usually come with pre-made merchandise from China shouldn't be on anything larger than 5 mm in my opinion.

There aren't really any rules about how deep the drill hole is on a half drilled pearl (are there?) so it is a matter of trying the pearl and the finding - a long one can easily be cut down.
