Show your "Play Pearls!'

Hi Sea Urchin,

I guess I just have 'pearls' :)

Sea Urchin, I know what you mean by play pearls but I don't have any yet. This weekend at our company Christmas dinner, a coworker wore three long ropes which looked to be fake white pearls, fake black pearls and a chunky fake gold chain. They actually looked really cute and stylish on her. I think it would be awesome to have some black freshwater pearls in 11-12mm. Good luck and good find!

Here is my new freshwater strand from Overstock. They're 11-12mm, 24 inches, silver clasp. To the left of it is my 64" 8-9mm strand for comparison. My new big fatties are surprisingly round (especially for only $75). There are some gouges but I think the black dye disguises them pretty well, and I like the purple and green overtones, too. However, I'm kind of annoyed at the moment. As you can see from the loose pearl, when I was trying to put on the 8-9mm strand for a comparison neck shot, that strand broke. That is my second Overstock strand to break, and I haven't even had them for a year. :( Still, I'm very pleased with my pretend Tahitians!

Sea Urchin,

Restring them with moss green PowerPro-- that can take the weight and won't break! That is what I did with my 11.5mm dyed freshwaters.

Thanks, Maiakity!

Thank you, Pearl Dreams. It was the 8-9mm strand that broke. I guess I will have to, it would cost a lot more than the pearls to get a 64 inch strand re-strung. So now I guess I'll have to learn to knot!

If the 64" doesn't have a clasp, you can add one now maybe, at the break site?

Thanks, everyone. Getting new stuff is so much fun, innit?

Thanks again, Pearl Dreams! I might post my results. I'm sure it will make everyone else who isn't that good at it feel better, as I have ten thumbs! (they may even be toes, I'm not sure). :p

The new pearls looks like a great deal. And what a happy coincidence that the other broke just as the new stringing tutotial has been put up. Go on... You know you want to :D

For me, it's definitely a good thing the pearl stringing tutorial is up. I just opened another Overstock.com strand of pearls- a 64 inch 8-9mm pink rope, and the damn string broke right as I tried to put them on. That's the third strand I've bought from them that has broken way too soon. I guess you really do get what you pay for. :(

What on earth did they string them with? Even silk should not be breaking so quickly.
