I am alas the same one who wrote about my grandmothers 3 pearl necklaces. After I received the information I went back to look at the other items. There was a pin and two pair of earrings. The pin is made of a gorgeous dome shape of lace pearls, backing of mother of pearls and a gold clasp. The thread tore, loosing some itsy-bitsy pearls. It past the grit test, +40X loop where the holes were drilled and circular. One pair of earrings are cream color and match the pin, the other pair identical but gray. MOP backing. The gray ones showed that the thread was loose and some pearls lost. I trashed them .... ( I don't know what I thought they were... junk)the other I kept but don't have not a clue where I would have tossed. I thought them worthless .... What of the pearls cultured vs natural? worth fixing? I took the photo's in natural light except it is cloudy today. I would never have thought about them except I read about the "queen" who visited the Berlin museum. Then I decided to pull out the pin and take a second look. I thought the pin pretty but insignificant. Any comments regarding the pin.
I am sure you see these pins all the time. Are they historical or have a story about them. How does one drill a hole so tiny and thread them into lacework?

Here's another thread about a necklace with mother of pearl backing, probably about the same era as yours. https://www.pearl-guide.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5536&highlight=victorian+seed+pearl

Even though your brooch needs repair, I'd say it is valuable, in addition to having sentimental value. I hope you can find the earrings, too. We'd love to have photos, plus the info is invaluable to others searching for similar items.

Wow, that pin is a great piece of history and so very lovely. Hope you will be able to find some tiny pearls to repair and wear!

What of the history? Is it family history or jewelry history? History for seeing who can make the most beautiful pin and not go blind history? I am going to the thread noted above. I pinned it on my shirt yesterday and looked at it in the mirror. It really is eye catching, albeit delicate.

I visited the thread you recommended. I did not realize that the pin could be from Victorian times. One of the comments stated not to wear for fear the necklace or earrings would be damaged. I suppose it goes back into the box. Now if I could locate the earrings ... I take it the thread was horse hair.

I love this pin. I keep coming back to this thread to peek at it. I hope you can find some one to repair it. I know I would.

THe pin is so beautiful bluidragon! I too hope you can find someone to repair it for you!
