Pearl sacs tear a lot actually. Especially in naturals that keep growing, sometimes for decades. It's not unusual they pop out entirely, only to become dislodged and nacre'd in place elsewhere.

It is odd, but that's the wonder of nature! I do think it strange though, a pearl would be drilled and sold sprouting a beard.

That was pretty interesting. I am curious to see even more examples, especially the gem/plant--what a conundrum...
