Not sure if this is right place for this topic. If not I guess some of the moderators will move.
I would like to mention the gemological use of the raman spectrometer as means of very fast distinguishing if dyed or natural, cultured freshwater pearls as well as coral and conch pearls. Anyone else familiar with this? If not you can see a couple of nice articles written by Alberto Scarani GG and Mikko ?str?m FGA on this topic. I use a Raman spectrometer myself and can indeed recommend the tool as it is both fast and accurate. One drawback might be the price though.
