Stay away from this piece, Baroless. Everything about the auction is wrong. Also, if you look at all of this seller's auctions you can see a pattern of deception in quality, retail value, and origin of all pieces.
What this seller is attempting to say is that he/she is selling nucleated freshwater pearls. While this 'may' be the case, I seriously doubt the pearls would be perfect round as described in the auction. Here are the main problems I have with the auction:
It describes a 15 year process. This is grossly over estimated, even if the process described is the actual process used.
It states the pearls are valued at $26,000.
You may find a fancy color perfect round freshwater strand in the 14-16mm range for this price, but never a strand as described.
It states the pearls are from Japan.
This is an obvious deception, the pearls are clearly Chinese freshwater. The seller also states all Akoya pearls sold are from Japan, but the seller is in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is a huge trading center for Chinese Akoya pearls, but I know of no trading house that deals in Japanese Akoya.
The term 'suspended planting'.
This is a term conjured by the seller to make the pearls seem more valuable than they are.
This is a classic example of pearl selling on eBay. This is why I always recommend serious buyers stay away. There is almost no room left on eBay for honest sellers. The fact that people do not like to leave negative feedback, and most buyers really do not understand what they have purchased makes it an impossible place to distinguish quality from garbage. While I am not saying that this particular piece is garbage, in fact if the actual strand is aesthetically described correctly it is a nice piece, the seller is intentionally being dishonest in representation.
