You're right - in typical man fashion I immediately think of how practical it is - I guess you wouldn't wear that piece remodeling the kitchen - doh!

I can see the point of the pearl being vulnerable but would one even have the strength to bang this giant ring against anything? I remember a term that might apply "cocktail ring".

I still love the way it's made and the unusual and organic shape. A pendant, yes that too, or a broch to secure a long rope... Not earrings, please!

I guess I should chime in about this ring...
first off the pearl is set on a really heavy gauge peg, which goes clear through the shell... and as for the size of the ring... and I quote "it is not for the faint of heart!"
"The ring measures 2.5" long!, and is an inch and half high. The ring weighs 44 grams!! It is a beautiful lasting piece of classical edgy jewelry born of ocean treasures.. and fantastic workmanship!
I wore it for the last day of the show in San Mateo and it is indeed very heavy .. however it is designed so well.. with the shape of the fingers in mind.. that it is comfortable with it's own weight. I was not concerned in the slightest about knocking the pearl... but if you were going to use it as a weapon... I would suggest dropping it on someones toe... and being as though it is bottom heavy...the pearl would still be unscathed!
The ring is not for everyone.. but if it is for you.. you will know!
