Pearl Sources?

Hi everyone. I have just started to make some "serious" pieces of jewelry and many of them involve pearls. There are very few bead stores around where I live and the pearls are very expensive but poor quality. I live in New Jersey, so a few times a year my family and I go into New York City and when we do go I drag them around to many bead/pearl places. We are going into the city on Tuesday to tour a couple of colleges and I was hoping to make a quick trip to some bead places. Can anyone recommend any places to go in NYC for pearls and findings and the like? They do not have to be high quality just not the basically beads with a thin layer of nacre type pearls that I have been seeing around here. I like using the freshwater pearls the most because they come in the pastel colors naturally but if anyone can recommend any places that sell south sea or tahitian pearls by the strand please let me know.
Thanks,
-Stephanie

Any chance you could drive up in a few weeks? ....... United States Pearl Co. will be at the Antique Jewelry & Watch Show; 7/25 thru 7/28 @ the Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 W. 18th St.

As far as findings, try Myron Toback @ 25 West 47th St.

Do you have a business license & tax ID #? If so there's lots of places...

I remember you asked this question last year. Check your post "Pearl Stores in NYC". I gave you a few suggestions then but the address I listed for the NY Jewelry Mart (Lucoral) is incorrect; they're on 46th St. (not 47th).
Another place you should check out is Ocean Dreams @ 1170 Broadway. (212) 689-2692. Jade is the person I work with when I visit.

Also, the issue of a resale certificate was discussed in that same thread.

 I just remembered this! Many (as in most) of the places in the NYC jewelry district are closed for two weeks around the 4th of July. Check before you come!

That is the proper document. The resale certificate is what they call it in AZ. They are tax documents issued by the state.
