We received a question from an individual asking whether or not we knew if crustrations, such as king crabs could create pearls. He apparently found somthing that looked similar to a pearl in a crab shell. My answer was that it was not uncommon for pearl-like stones to be formed in various crustations, but that it would not hold value similar to a more traditional pearl. However, without being able to inspect the piece, I wonder if I jumped the gun by saying it would not have any tangible value. Does anyone know of an occurence of a pearl-like sphere that was created within a crustation AND commanded tangible value on the market?
