The French Gemological Laboratory of Paris is well-known among professionals in the jewellery industry. The laboratory was once a part of the Paris Chamber of Commerce, but has now been bought by the French Union of Jewellers, Goldsmiths, and Precious Stone and Pearl Traders (BJOP).
Though it has moved, it has not left its original neighbourhood. Indeed, the new highly modern and functional premises are set up in rue Notre Dame des Victoires, just behind the Palais Brongniart. The French Gemological Laboratory of Paris has equipped itself with a new tool that is practically unique in the world: a microradiography machine to certify natural and cultured pearls. The machine provides answers that will help jewellers improve their sales of high-quality pearls, such as cultured pearls from Tahiti or the South Seas.
