"horizontal waterfalls"....what are those if I might ask?

I've never been on the Kimberly coast, so I can't speak to their description, but here in Canada we have several instances of horizontal cascades driven by tides.

Flood tides tend to be more gentle (except during high tide storms), as the water level creeps upward. Then as the tide ebbs, gravity and hydrology take over with avengance. As the tide drops the forces applied to the terrain can be extraordinary, thrusting huge volumes of water into the air.

Here's a link to a cool surfing video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6f8oLu8t8M at Skookumchuck Narrows.

Interestingly enough, this phenomena is absolutely essential to our local crab population/fishery. The area surrounding Tofino has extensive tidal mud flats and shallows. When the tide ebbs from these flats, they form fast moving torrents that not only become airborne, but cut deeply into the embankments as streams form. Tons of silt, debris and yes.... food pour into the deeper water, providing a hardy meal for crustaceans.
