May I ask one last favor? This looks like a similar ring; also one white and one blacl pearl. Can you determine if either would be ok to be on? Thanks again. (am specifically looking for an older style ring)

I am not sure what exactly you want to know, the setting is a matter of taste but the "pearls" sure look like abysmal quality.

Thanks. My goal is to replace or find a similar ring to replace one I borrowed from my mother, as a teen-ager 20 yrs. ago, and promptly lost. She was very sweet about it, but I thought it might be nice to find her another one. Hers was from her mother, a very "old fashioned" setting, w/small diamonds and 2 pearls- one dark and one light. I don't think cost/value is really the major goal, although I would rather not spend several hundred dollars on plastic! If I needed a contemporary ring it would be much easier! I am not sure where to look for a "vintage" or antique ring other than EBay or similar sites. Thank you again for a great forumn.

Hi Caroline,

There are quite few suppliers that offer vintage style settings. Your are not going to get a platinum and diamond ring with two pearls of acceptable quality for cheap. Not on eBay or anywhere. The obvious reason is that the scrap value would already be several hundred dollars. The eBay auction above is for a ring marked 10% Iridium/Platinum, which is a thick plating but plated not solid. That also casts doubt on the diamonds and the pearls. Maybe some of the dealers on this forum can help you find an affordable replacement.
