One week ago there was a jewelry auction sale in Paris.
There was this 3 row pearl necklace (sorry about the quality, I have just taken a picture of the catalogue)

The necklace, in a poor state, was evaluated between 400 and 700 euros if the pearls were cultured (548 - 959 US dollars) and this was just fine for the seller.
The catalogue was printed, as you can see, and in the meantime the necklace was sent to the lab for expertise.
When the necklace came back, just before the sale, the cert said all the pearls were natural but one.
The seller was surprised and delighted, but decided to go on with the sale.
In the end, the necklace was sold to an indian buyer for more than 250 000 euros (342 475 US dollars).
Two indian buyers fought during the sale to get it.
Can you imagine how the seller felt !

There was also in the same sale this 2 row necklace. Estimated 900 - 1000 euros (1233 - 1370 US dollars) if cultured.

This time, the lab cert said half of the pearls were cultured (the biggest ones mainly) and half were natural.
Final selling price, 10 000 euros (13 700 US dollars). Not so bad !

That must be one happy seller! Thanks for sharing the story and photos with us.

Now, in this case it was worth it getting all the pearls certified...

What a great story, lucky seller!

It is also a compliment to the integrity of the auction house that they realized the best price for their vendor.
