I always look forward to seeing Betty Sue. I always learn lots about pearls and she is an amazingly lovely and generous person too.

Betty Sue is certainly very nice ! She saw me at the HK fair last year from half way across the hall and came over to say 'hi' .. I was agonizing over 6 strands trying to decide which 1 I should buy. I had poured over them for 10 min and as she walked up and chatted with me while I turned them over and over. I explained my dilemma ... she took one look and pointed "That one!" . Then she looked at 2 strands of white and gold SS that I'd passed on .. confirmed that I didn't want them (read here could not afford them on top of the Tahitians I'd just committed to buy ) and said "that one" . Afterwards she held it up and pointed to one huge round white pearl...'that's why I bought it..that pearl will sell the whole strand' ... then..like the Lone Ranger...she was ... AWAY !!

Given that the photo of her at paspaley is 2007, the pearls she's wearing are primo Tahitians, right? They absolutely glow!

Betty Sue's necklace is amazing, and a great tool to see which color looks best on your skin. She took it off and laid it across our wrists, moving color by color across our skin. The good and bad colors for your skin jump right out at you. My skin loves green!

Wouldn't it be great if Betty Sue was a member here? She has so much knowledge! She can sure pick the pearls, as Katbran's story illustrates!

She wears amazing necklaces, and quite a few tin cup style!

In HK she was wearing the most darling tiny little Tahitian Keshi strand..so sweet ,casual and understated.

Betty sue, How is the metallic pearl formed? I was searching for the article but little was written. The pearls look like "fake". Are they in fact cultured... How big is the nucleus if one is used?

I've read that the more metallic pearls come from implantation on the area close to the hinge of the mussel.
