Hello everyone,
I'm a newbie here but have been lurking for a while, learning a lot from all of you. Thank you for all the information!
I only have a few pearl pieces, but I've always loved them. I've been wanting to have a good heirloom-quality strand of pearls for a while now so I've been spending time educating myself and drooling at all the pictures on this forum, as well as pricescope and even the purse forum.
So when Pearl Paradise put a 8.5mm-9mm hanadama strand on sale this month (35% off!!!!), I jumped at the chance.
I just received it today and even to my untrained eyes, it looks gorgeous.
My question to you guys is; I would like to eventually get a matching pair of earrings.
Do you think I should stick to hanadama or akoya pearls, or will it be OK to go with south sea pearls?
Will the colors be too different if I go with SSP?
Adding pictures to show!
Thank you! 20170324_192130.jpg1490407772571.jpg1490407769957.jpg

They're beautiful, congratulations!

I wear my SSP dangles with my baroque akoyas and they go great together. If you want SSP, get SSP!

Absolutely gorgeous and they look huge on you! I'd probably lean towards a pair of Hanadama studs but SSP could also work! PP can help you pick out the perfect pair!

OOOO, what a gorgeous necklace.

Of course you can match SS pearls to an akoya necklace. Here's proof.

However, you might want to talk to or e-mail PP and ask them to match the pearls so they look like they go together. SS's can be silvery white while akoyas can be pinkish. In my photo, the SS drops are pinkish and the akoyas are very white, so they look like they go together.

P.S. My attachment is there in edit mode, but doesn't show up when I save.
UPDATE: My photos are showing up now.

Welcome to PG and congrats on your beautiful new pearl strand! They look lovely on you!

Thank you so much everyone for your kindness! You sure know how to make a newbie feel welcome. :)
I agree with the suggestion that I should contact pp beforehand for possible matching. The thought of possibly matching ssp to the necklace initially occurred to me because I noticed some ssp earrings were on sale... And I can't seem to stay away from a good sale!

Gorgeous pearls, and they look so lovely on you! Welcome to PG and I hope that you find your perfect earrings to go with...personally I love a dangle style, but a classic stud will never steer you wrong. And of course, I'd love to see the white pearls paired with dark pearl studs.

Not sure if it's just me or if I would feel differently if it was very expensive pearls (like more in the thousands than hundreds). But while I do want my metals to match, I don't really care if my necklace and earring pearls don't match exactly. In fact, I think it's a bit more modern looking when they aren't a perfect matched set. Also, I think there's enough space between the neck and ears that it's not really noticeable when worn anyway.

I'm wondering what everyone else thinks. Do y'all want your necklace and earring pearls to be an exact match?

Below is a 10.5-11.5mm white freshie strand with 14-15mm(?) WSS earrings, shown with different clothing colors. Sorry the photos aren't the greatest but the WSS pearls are definitely more blue-ish and the freshwater strand is more yellowish. (It's the same earrings throughout, I just had them re-set). I'm also getting some Tahitian earrings set now that are a lighter green shade than my green Tahitian strand.

BWeaves, they do look like they go well together....beautiful pearls! Thank you!

Sea Urchin, thank you so much for your pictures. The only pictures I can tell the difference in colors are the ones where they're sitting on a stark white background. On you, you can't tell the difference quite as much and they look gorgeous. Certainly gives me less hesitation in "mixing" different pearls!!

I find just about all pearls go together nicely.

Back in the pre-cultured pearl era, it was a rare strand indeed that actually matched within the strand itself.

I don't mind mixing metals, either. But I have a steel watch with yellow gold accents, and I wear a lot of tricolor gold bracelets. This means that I can wear just about any metal for rings or necklaces or earrings and it all goes together. But to be honest, when you're wearing pearls, nobody pays attention to the metal color.

Wow, a great Hanadama strand that looks perfect on you! Anything goes. I would love to see baroque blue akoya pearls with your necklace.

Think of pearl colors like you do flowers. Just as flowers don't have to match exactly to look good together in an arrangement, neither do your pearls. None of my white earrings exactly match my necklaces, but I happily wear them together as long as one isn't, say, considerably yellower than the other.

Your pearls are gorgeous!

You guys are all enablers to this addiction.....and I am a willing victim!!!
