Need selling advice on Mikimoto pearls

Many years ago, I purchased a string of pearls as a gift for my wife. I am currently unemployed - over five months so far - and my wife today suggested that it might be time to sell those pearls.

I have no idea how to do so, as I am normally a computer systems contract employee. Here is a description of the pearls from an appraisal done in July of 2003, when we realized they should probably be insured:

"
30 inch strand of 6-6.5mm cultured pearls by Mikimoto with an 18kt yellow gold catch. There are 111 pearls total in the strand. Slight rose "A" quality. Estimated value $7000.
"

How and where would I go about selling these?

I want to work only with established, reputable buyers.

Any knowledgeable help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Jim,
There may be several options for you. Your best bet for selling your pearls is going to be selling them to an estate jeweler who will either buy them straight out and resell them or sell them on consignment. There are also reputable auctions that you may consider selling your pearls on. Christie's or Sotheby's would be a good option for you.
Good luck and best wishes!

Thank-you, Amanda. I will try to find a local estate jeweler.
