A friend of mine is liquidating an old jeweler's family business. The business was founded by the grandfather and was in the third generation of the family (and Seymour is no spring buck by now).

She just shared these natural salt water baroques and I thought some of you might enjoy the photos (they are also up for auction, if anyone is interested).

The first three images appear to have beads and are consistent with rejected cultured akoyas. If it's possible, I'd like to see candled views.

In the center image, the popcorn pearls may be keshi or natural, hence I'd be inclined to submit them for analysis unless the collector has specific information as to provenance ie species, time and location of harvest.

The pearls in the scoop may be from blue mussels and the last from freshwater mussels. Both types certainly present as natural.

Here's an image submitted by P-G member Bigwellpearls a year or so ago of rejected akoyas from their saltwater farm in China. You'll see doubled shapes, color and surfaces matches.

Thanks, Dave! I will forward this to Jane, who is organizing the sale. Do you have any recommendations or suggestions on how to candle the pearls?

Agree with Dave that the pearls in the 1st post are all bead cultured pearls (old experimental culturing for some due to the curving link between the double nuclei). The smaller pearls in the sieve are more likely natural IMO, there may be some Keshi mixed in, and agree with Dave again on the last being natural USA freshwater pearls (wing/feather). Agreement on two out of three is not bad ;-) Just need to see what the small pearls in the sieve really are now!
