" A string of 75 graduated natural pearls ;in a light ivory scream color with a Tiffany 18k-w clasp set with 3 European-cut diamonds. .....The 8,000-12,000 $ estimate was compleely ignored and bidders chased it tan an astonishing $143,750.00. "Tiffany didn't hurt it" .......finest matched natural pearls we've ever seen commented auction manager"

Groan! This is going to bring a new hoard of people with dollar signs in their eyes who have been told their pearls are 'natural, as in 'not fake'...

Plus those who believe their pearls could have originated from well-known jewellery stores, without much evidence to speak of.

DK

Would that would be a record price for that auction house in Maine? Natural pearl necklaces with provenance have sold for more, topping out with the Duchess of Windsor's pearls that last sold at auction for $3,625,000. The Baroda pearls (a set of jewelry) sold for over seven million. At the beginning of the century, they were worth even more, if you consider that one long necklace was traded for a mansion on Fifth Avenue in NYC.

Thank goodness for fabulous, affordable cultured pearls! :)

Who else like to trawl through the auction results at the likes of Christies?

I have a thing for double clip brooches, tiaras and pearls, of course!

DK :D

has anyone found the link to see those strands somewhere ?
