Just acquired my first abalone pearl, 37.2 x 13.5 x 6.2 mm, 10.76 cts, natural green with blue silver golden overtones. Totally unplanned purchase, it caught my eye and would not let go. Advice needed on care, but also on how to best display this pearl. It is fairly sturdy on the edges, it can be drilled, but would prefer not to. First four photos one side, next four other side, and last photo a side view. Love both sides and want both to be visible. Ideas?

Very cool pearl! A simple gold bezel setting with a bail would make it into a lovely and versatile pendant :)

Thanks Pattye & Marianne, I am thinking something simple in silver around it, not sure of the design, I am not much on chains, maybe hanging on a strand of something wonderful ? Maybe a strand of small pearls in some type of natural color other than white? Can't do anything with it right now, will be eating beans and rice for a while after this purchase. Noticed my handle has upgraded to "ready for grafting" on the forum. Probably need to have my brains grafted for buying one pearl this expensive, but I know I will be glad I did it when I recover. (laughing all the way to the poor house)

You could make it into an enhancer! You know, a pendant you can clasp on to any pearl necklace.

Well, DLP, probably most of us have a couple of purchases like your sublime abalone pearl! Agree, it would be lovely on a strand of blue akoya, or silver keshi~so many options! As Karin mentioned, consider an enhancer. My abalone is similar in shape to yours, and has been mounted with a handmade bezel around the outside so no need to drill into the pearl.
