Hello. My mom has these pearls and we do not know anything about them. The feel gritty when you rub them on your teeth. I'm not sure if the size bit took a picture of them next to a penny to compare. Any help would be appreciated.

jkellogg,

Welcome to Pearl-Guide.

Based on their small size, roundness, great luster and varied overtones, it looks to me like the strand is cultured akoya pearls.

The studs could be akoyas also, but the luster is a bit lower and maybe it's the camera angle but the right stud looks a bit off round in the back, so they may be cultured Chinese freshwater pearls. Did you test the earrings for grittiness? (You can rub one gently against the other, not necessary to use teeth.) If they are slippery, they could also be imitations. Imitation pearls are unlikely to be set in karat gold, however, so look with a magnifier for the metal mark on the studs settings.

Ok I was able to get better pictures of them. I do know the necklace is 8mm and earrings are about 7 1/2- 8mm. The post on earrings also say 14k and have the same symbol as clasp but I can't make it out.
