Grittyish-smoothish. No history at all. 49 beads all the same general size I don't have a mm measuring caliper. The two beads right next to the clasp do not appear to belong and there is one bead missing, well at least the re is space on the string for another. Mark is Crown TRIFARI and is attached.

Trifari is a wonderful costume jewelry maker. They are most-likely artificial pearls. I have several pairs of Trifari costume earrings with pearls that I still love.

Are you the first owner? Perhaps the piece is a Frankenstrand, with the clasp and pearls coming from both costume and genuine jewelry?

If the necklace is still in good condition, you can still wear them with pride. I salvaged my Majorica pearls and incorporated them into a pair of gold and amethyst earrings, and they now get more wear.
