Hi all this is my first post I have been following this forum for a long time. I found it after purchasing some pearls from Pearl Paradise. I have since also made some purchases from Pearlescence after finding it on this forum. I have learned such a lot from this forum. This necklace has a small 9ct white gold push in barrel clasp and each pearl even the smallest ones have a wonderful lustre and iridescence. The largest pearl is 7mm and the smallest are 3mm.

What is the estimated age for the pearls please?

DK :)

Johanna,

Welcome, that's a beautiful pearl necklace. There is no way to tell from a photograph if pearls are cultured or natural. A gem lab with special equipment can, however. Most of the pearls appear to be off round and baroque. What is the story behind your necklace? Where was it purchased? That info might give us some clues~

Pearlescence and Pearl Paradise are great places to shop for pearls, I agree!

I have only just purchased them from a lady on eBay who stated that they were her grandmothers pearls the lady is a lady who was selling some odd bits and pieces. She said she has no daughter to leave them to. I only took these photos with my phone and was very pleased with how they came out. These pearls are a mixture of shapes. But every pearl has lovely lustre and irredescence even the smallest ones. When they are on it looks as though all the pearls are round they have so much lustre.

Sorry I forgot to say that the necklace measures 19 inches so is a good length. If as I suspect the lady is an older lady and they were her grandmothers I would imagine that they may be about 100 years old but they have not lost lustre neither are they showing any signs of yellowing. I will find out more information from the seller.

eBay? Lucky you. Please do come back with more info!!!

They are fantastic pearls! Highly likely to be natural from the shapes, several of which are unique to natural pearls. Even if they are baroque akoyas, they are superb to look at, but something about the way the pearls are laid out in the strands and that little clasp is consistent with natural pearls. The clasp is probably 100 years old. I have several just like that and they are pre-turn of the 20th century.

If those are baroque akoya, they are still fantastic because they look entirely natural...

It sounds like you did not pay a great deal for them? If so, that is a once in a lifetime find.

Thank you all for your comments I do have a wide variety of different types of pearls including some very small mikimoto stud earrings and a beautiful Hanadama bracelet but the lustre and iridescence on these beat them, that's why I think that it may be natural. Once again thank you for your comments. I didn't pay a lot and have spent more money on very large freshwater pearls. I also have a pair of rose gold earrings with 2 very round white 5mm pearls in each that I think may be Basra pearls. I will upload pictures of these at the weekend.

I have contacted the seller all she could tell me was that her mother got them from her mother and her mother died in 2008 and that is when she inherited the necklace as part of her mothers estate. I also have some other pearl necklaces with a 9ct yellow gold clasp the same as this clasp. These pearls are more yellow mostly round with some off rounds. This necklace is longer I will try to post some more pictures of my other pearls at the weekend. I am becoming increasingly addicted to pearls and love looking at pictures of pearls

Is it worth getting these tested? If so I am in the UK, could anyone tell me where I should go in the UK to get them tested. Thank you
