Welcome, Can you tell us more about this pearl and where it came from? Perhaps someone else will have some comments. I'm not certain if that dark center is organic matter that the nacre covered up.
That looks like a pearl from the Persian gulf. It actually looks very old. like it was dug up out of the ground. It is very similar to the 7000 year old pearl found in Qatar, as photographed in Carter's book. "Sea of Pearls". None of those photos have been made public, though.
Great photographs. Wish I could do as well. It does appear to be a Basra Arabian Gulf pearl. Actually it screams Basra I have come across a lot that have that dirty look inside and that is because it mostly is dirt. It just gets into drill holes. But being well over 100 years old it is not unusual. Did it come from an old ring. Would be hard to get the dirt out but I would worry too much about that if I were you.
That is a good size Basra pearl. What at the mm dimensions?
thanks a lot, all of you here, for your kind response & showing interest in my thread. Also once again i thank you for appreciating my photography.
To dawn, i"ll get back to u soon about mm dimensions
