Is it possible to have Mikimoto pearls switched ?

I recently purchased a vintage 14k Mikimoto Pearl Brooch on an auction website paid almost $700. The website states visible glue on the Pearl. I examined the brooch carefully, it does have MG K14 hallmark on the brooch. On the back of some pearls do have noticeable yellow glue than the other pearls. All pearls do appear to be light cream in bright luster. But some of the pearls are not in a perfect condition, you can see tiny blemishes on the pearls. Do you think it’s possible for someone to switch pearls? I really need all your experts help. Thanks!!!

It's possible those pearls fell off and were re-glued on by the owner.
It's also possible they were lost and replaced with other akoya pearls, not necessarily of the same quality and maybe not even Mikimoto brand.

Less likely they were deliberately switched.

Great! Thanks for your explanation! How can I tell if if they are Mikimoto Akoya pearls? Can Mikimoto store employee help me in that? The website did state it’s Mikimoto brand brooch and cultured pearls. I also know if they are not Mikimoto Pearls, this website usually would tell something like “it is Mikimoto clasp but not Mikimoto pearls.”

It will be "easy" to find out if the pearls are Akoya pearls...but not necessarily Mikimoto. Now, as for the jewelry design...it could be easier to demonstrate if it is a Mikimoto made piece. How? There could be a catalogue of items made or sold by Mikimoto and can be identified as such.
Personally: If the pearls are Akoya and on a Mikimoto piece I would treat them as Mikimoto as well...unless I saw some obvious issues such as low-quality pearl used.
