Hi! This is my first time posting. I looked around and I *think* I'm posting in the right place, but please let me know if I'm not!
Last week my fiance (!) proposed with my dream ring! It's this exact setting:
http://www.haroldstevens.com/jewelry/rings/Pearl/item/627
EXCEPT the pearl is smaller (the pictured one is 11mm, mine is 8), and instead of being diamond-encrusted, it's just metal, but with six accents (alternating diamond and alexandrite, our birthstones) on each side of the band. It's beautiful and just perfect.
I knew pearls were fragile, and I was told I'd have to replace it every 5-10 years. I accept that.
However, I guess I didn't realize just how fragile because it's been less than a week and I already scratched it!
It's barely noticeable, but it made me really sad. And it also gave me an idea.
Would it be a bad idea to invest in a bunch of pearls, and just have them replaced when they're noticeably scuffed/scratched, but not so deteriorated that they have to be thrown away? I'm thinking I could replace it maybe every year? Maybe even every six months? And collect the used pearls to string for a bracelet or necklace, keeping the precious stones as a keepsake but always having a perfect, beautiful pearl in the most important piece - my engagement ring.
Three questions:
a) This is not a drilled pearl, it's glued. Would this be costly to replace frequently if I provide the pearl?
b) Is this listing too good to be true? I'm aware they're button, not round, but I think a button would fit into the setting, right? Especially for that price, if they're nice looking. http://www.ebay.com/itm/100-Pieces-...156?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a7b4bdb9c
c) Are there any issues with this plan that I'm not thinking about?
Thank you in advance!
