I just got back from a trip to Hawaii. While I was there I bought some earrings as a souvenir. A free “pick a pearl” was included with the purchase. The jewelry store employee swore it was an Akoya pearl but he would not be a reliable source. I know these tend to be freshwater pearls, but would like more opinions. I didn’t buy a setting and the pearl is undrilled. Size, somewhere between 6 to 7 mm and rolls in every direction so it is very close to round. It does pass the tooth test.

It is dyed, but it could be an akoya pearl. It's hard to tell from a single photo based on the shape, especially if it is truly round. Typically Pick a Pearl akoya oysters do have freshwater pearls inside.

I agree. It looks like a dyed Akoya. Most dyed freshwaters will display a very DEEP coloration...this one has a more subtle dye.

I just checked with a pair of calipers. The diameter is 7.3 mm in every direction I spun it give or take a few hundredths of a millimeter. If it helps, I tried candling it.
