Hi does anyone know what kind of black pearl this is?

Hi,

I was going through my grandmothers old jewelry that I inherited years ago and came across a black pearl earring and ring set. The pearls are a grey and are gritty when rubbed together. On the inside of the ring it says '14k' and 'China'. I'm not too familiar with black pearls and wanted to see if anyone knew what kind of pearls these are (freshwater, Akoya, Tahitian, eg). Please let me know.

It will be a lot easier to judge the pearl if you photograph it against a white background. If you can take the photo without flash or artificial lights indoors, or outdoors in the shade, that is even better. It will make it easier to see the overtone colors, if any. It could be a dyed akoya or it could be a Tahitian.
