Hi - Can you please tell me what kind of pearls these are?

They were a recent gift from a friend in China and I'm just wondering if they are a particular type, I really don't know much about pearls. The strand is approx. 17".

Nice luster on those. I see a few that are a bit potato shaped, so my guess is freshwater pearls.
