Hi everyone, i was wondering, this necklace of 79 pearls of similar shape and color and luster, was passed to my mother from her mother, i think it has at least 60 years old, the clasp is made of SILVER in the back it only says SILVER.
Looks like you have a beautiful strand of baroque akoya pearls, very nice luster. Their "roundness" indicates there is a bead inside. (Love the teardrop shapes with the drippy nacre.) Back then the nacre was often thicker than on akoya pearls now, as they were left in the water longer. The thread doesn't look too stretched out, but they likely need restringing to make them safe to wear. Is the necklace a bit longer than 18 inches? Were these given or purchased as a gift for a special occasion? We love hearing the stories, and hope someone in the family, you? will be wearing these!
