Hi all...I am new to this website, and new to pearls. My husband and I recently chose a pearl ring online and have it on layaway. The owner there has been very pleasant and helpful, and the staff has GIA training. They also provide certification. My husband selected the ring, and I love it, but could you folks please look at the pearl? The ad said the pearl was green bodytone, very high luster, perfectly clean, perfectly round, and I have forgotten the size, but it was around 11mm. The cost was just about $1,000 for the pearl and 18 kt white gold/pave diamond setting. Please give me your honest input, since we can if need be select another pearl from this retailer. Thanks in advance for your help!!!!

Sounds like you got an excellent deal on a beautiful ring! ;)

well the question is, do YOU like the look of the pearl?

You have to wear the ring so I would go with what appeals to you.

Looks pretty good to me! If you can see your reflection sharply (I can see the camera lens quite clearly) then that's a good sign of luster, from a layperson's point of view. Color is subjective but that looks like a nice deep green. Surface and shape look great from this shot. Question is, do you like it? If so, well done!

Thanks folks!

Thanks folks!

Yeah, we love the ring, but we were concerned that it didnt have the overtones (undertones?) that many pearls have (excuse my ignorance).

Did you mean iridescence? I mean, if you don't know what you're looking for, you're not missing it to be honest.

It's true that we don't know much about pearls (yet). But $1,000 dollars is alot of money to us, so we do want to buy what would be considered a nice color/grade of pearl, in addition to buying what "looks good" to us.

I'm just not sure exactly what it is you're after. We've explained that pearl grading is mainly assessed via size, shape, luster, surface and color. Color is the single subjective factor. What I see would be different from what you see, assuming we have the same computer monitor settings. Darker pearls are usually more highly prized, all other things being equal. But the pearl from the picture seems to have lovely coloration, so I'm just not sure what else is being asked. You need to browse the vendor websites to decide for yourself what body color and overtones you are looking for.

For example, I like this:

and

http://www.thepearloutlet.com/products/prod-TNMU092AAP019.htm

What do you like?

Our problem is that we have never purchased a pearl before, and there are so many beautiful types/colors/shapes, etc., to choose from!!! Since we love the ring and pearl, and since you folks don't see any issues by looking at the photo/grading information, we will go with what we like and complete our purchase. Thanks again for your help!

The one you've chosen looks lovely. Also a good price for the complete piece. Just MHO..

Raison - just buy a $50 pedometer..

The pearl looks good in the picture, and it is important as everyone said, that first you like it. That being said, check with them on their return policy, and make sure that you are getting that exact pearl, and that the ring isn't representative. Other wise the 2 key statements seem to be "my husband selected it," and "I love it."

Too far gone. I hate wearing watches and the only pink accelerometer I like is a watch-type thingie. I'm getting the Nike Shox, then an Ipod Nano, then a sports kit, and finally the armband thingie ... Cutting back on pearl purchases this month. I did get a nice lot off ebay in the mail today.

Sorry about the hijack.

Aha, photos please, Raisondetre! (You can start a new thread.)

BTW, the ring looks gorgeous! Just as the others mentioned, make sure it is the one you will receive, and that there is a return policy------------

PalmSpringsPJ,

I'm late to this party but I agree with the rest! You have a good deal and a great looking ring there (assuming you are getting the exact ring in the photo and not just a similar one) -- as long as you love it, go for it!

Blaire-- Happy Birthday!!

Raison, you are a complete tragic. Is the nano pink, too?

Yes, pink Shox, pink nano, pink skin, pink everything.

Will post pics in a couple days ... they're downsized so not too happy about it. Working two night shifts so that doesn't help on the grumpiness scale.

PalmSprings,
I just want to add that this pearl is a Tahitian and it looks very nice! So You just see to it that you get THIS PEARL AND YOU WILL BE FINE!
Welcome to the forum!
