I am ready to purchase from PP. I want round super white, shiny, large 8.5 to 9mm earring studs. Please advise and help me choose the best investment for the long run, I don't have any strands, but am planning to purchase in future.

PP Akoya white silver AA, AAA
PP Hanadama natural white

PP South seas and a little out of reach for me. I think.

I would like to be around $300 to $400 or should I spend more?

I have also considered the PP metallic white but they are not in the 8.5 to 9 range, price is great!

Thanks!

My personal preference would be for natural white hanadamas, but the AAA akoya studs will also be very pretty and much more affordable. Stud earrings are less prone to wearing away of nacre, so that should be no problem. White akoya studs are a classic that you will enjoy for the rest of your life, if you can hang on to them and be sure to put them on after applying hairspray and lotions. :) Welcome!

Thanks for your prompt response. What would I see or not see visually between the three different levels.

akoya AAA, VS.

hanadamas white, VS. and hanadamas natural white

When it comes to studs, I prefer the button shape because they lay against the earlobe better. I would go to a store and try on different sizes and shapes -- unless you've already done that. Buttons are round and look round to the viewer but don't stick out quite so much. I agree that AAA akoya should be fine for stud earrings. They won't be rubbing on anything but your earlobe. I always wipe my pearls gently with a wet washcloth after I take them off to remove oil and sweat. It only takes a few seconds. Enjoy the search and keep us posted!

I have (all from PP):

-- "pinked" hanadamas (not natural white) and they do indeed have a pink overtone when on white paper towel. But when wearing, they look white.

-- AAA freshwater (silver/rose overtone) and they are really pretty -- but the luster and roundness can't compare to akoya.

-- white metallic triple (cream overtone) -- they have fabulous luster but are the least round.

The pictures below are not very good, but note how "silver/pink" overtones look different on the AAA and the hanadama. It's very hard to pinpoint and describe color precisely with our vocabulary, unfortunately. Also note when I say "least round" the off-roundness of the pearls are not noticeable from a distance.

If they were side by side, there would probably be more depth to the nacre on either of the hanadamas. The regular hanadamas have a pink tint that is not obvious when worn against the skin. But the AAA might be very close. Then again, how closely would you be looking at earrings? Would it be enough to justify the difference in price? On a ring, I would go for the better pearl, because you would be gazing at it. :)

BAS is right. I also like the lower profile of buttons. What you need for your earrings are the very large clutch backs that will keep them from "drooping". :)

I'm loving all these pics, and all are truly beautiful. This is such a great help!! What a great forum, thank you, GemGeek and BAS…….

Thanks GemGeek on the clutch, today, I am considering. 9.0 to 10.0 White Freshadama, or the 8.5 to 9.0 AAA White Akoya (not currently available towards the 9.0) Help! It's hard not seeing them in person, and I am a very visual person. I am sure they are all superior to what can be purchased in my city.

Any thoughts any one on the Freshadama?

Personally I go for smaller size and higher luster. I hardly ever wear studs and the one pair I have i size 9, I have worn once. The only pair I wear is a pair of 30 year old akoya in size 7. I find that if the luster is high they draw the eye in a different way than if they're large.

So I'm way out of the norm that studs get bigger as you get older. I just don't like to feel my earrings too much. Even though I am a dangle person, these too are not heavy.

Its between the Freshadama White or the Metalic White in a size 9. Help !! Anyone with some suggestions.

I third that; once you have pearls with metallic luster you will never look back o_o

At least with freshies. I adore the satiny shine of South Sea pearls too, but I tell you what, here in Hawaii I see a -lot- of women wearing pearls and 90% of the time mine are better. I don't say that to preen, although I do love owning special pearls, but I've popped into enough jewelry stores to know that someone likely paid way too much for the end product. Exception being if the pearls were found at one of our touristy markets, you can get stud earrings for $10 in these parts. Not fantastic quality pearls, but they are real and they're as pretty as the $50ish studs you can pick up in any department store. Course you take your chances with the setting...

Anyway. *cough* You see my point, with pearls it's generally better not to settle. Metallic pearls are just beautiful and if the option is there, you should go for it. The difference really is enormous. :)

Renna, you post was great, I can't see really good pearls where I live, Im actually a diamond girl at heart loving my WF AAA+, ACA's (perfect cut diamonds). The Pearl quest is new to me, but very interesting and exciting. I'm sure, if and when I visit PP in person I will love many things so for now, I will start with the Metallics. My next purchase I would love a huge monster Edison round similar to Mrs.PearlPardice in her resort post WOW exciting!! It's hard when you can't see in person to compare. But this forum and all of you GemGeek, and BSA and Renna thanks so much for the help. I'm excited to explore the world of pearls with PP.

I have both white freshadama and AAA metallic strands from PP and I think both are gorgeous! Personally I would ask your PP sales associate to choose their favorite pair of pearls from the two types. THere may be one pair that stands out a bit more than the other. Good luck deciding!

I am so excited to receive my new pearl earrings. I choose the PP White Exotic Metallic size very close to a 10MM with a medium clutch in white 14K. They are large and stunning. The White definitely has green overtones (is this unusual or rare?)and some pink overtones pending light but very white. So very happy with the service and advice! Thank you PP!

Oh, I can hardly wait to see them on your ears! The overtones sound gorgeous. Overtones are funny -- my lavenders have blue, grey, pink and even brown overtones!
