I own a 20 inch pearl necklace with a pave set barrel shaped platinum clasp. The pearls on this graduated strand range from 6.0mm to 8.9mm. It has serial number 26622 stamped on the clasp followed by heavily rubbed indistinct additional marks:

Compare the clasp on this necklace to the clasp on a Van Cleef & Arpels necklace with serial number 27495

I spoke with someone at Van Cleef & Arpels and will be having their archives department begin the authentication process. In the meantime, does this look like it is a natural saltwater pearl necklace? Here are additional images of the pearls:

The size range of the pearls on this necklace (6.0 to 8.9mm) is very close to the size range on another Van Cleef and Arpels natural pearl necklace (5.6 to 8.5):

Nice strand! The clasp does look very similar (if not exactly the same...does look the same!) to that of the natural pearl strand.
But your strand seems to be made using Akoya cultured pearls. I don't get any "natural pearl vibes" but you could have it checked/analyzed by a reputable Gem lab if you wanted.

Thank you CortezPearls! Rather than sending it to a gem lab I contacted Van Cleef & Arpels and they will be authenticating the necklace which includes identifying any changes made to it since its creation so I am waiting to hear what they have to say. I understand it could take upwards of six months.
