Hi
Forum members often use the word hallmark to describe a trademark..so I attach a photo of my hallmark properly called a sponsor's mark which has just been applied to the pictured ring after the metal was assayed as sterling silver at Goldsmith's Hall in London.

You can clearly see my initials in a specific shape. That is my mark. No-one else has had or ever can have it. It shows that this piece was made by me. The other elements of the mark
are all explained here http://www.thegoldsmiths.co.uk/assay-office/hallmarking
/all-about-hallmarking/
but briefly there is a Cheetah's head which means it was assayed in London; the rampant lion means stirling silver and the lower case l is the 2010 year letter.
other standards of silver, of gold, platinum and palladium have other marks

yes, Pattye, it is very satisfying.
Hallmarking is one of the earliest forms of consumer protection, going back many 100 of years
perhaps you should start a campaign to get something like it going there?
