I am restringing this Mikimoto strand for a client and am requesting some guidance from the hive mind. It looks to me like it had been restrung at some point, and either stretched or just badly knotted. Pearls measure 3.3-6.9mm. My question is- Miki doesn’t usually knot a smaller graduated strand like this? Should I advise my client to not knot? To send to Miki for restringing?

It is currently at 21 inches and she wants it at 18. There are a few clunker pearls- I was planning on removing the clunkers and knotting to see how it looked, unless everyone here has better advice. As always, many thanks for the wealth of knowledge on this site!

Just knotting the end 3-4 pearls on either side will shorten it quite a lot (and look better). Counting the number of knots plus gaps in the necklace at present, I estimate that will shave off between 1.5-2 inches. If you also remove a few pearls, you can easily get it to 18".
