Hi all,

This 21 inch strand of graduated pearls belonged to my grandmother (born 1900). I do not know the history of the necklace but I know it has not been worn for at least the past 30 years. Any feedback will be most appreciated. Thanks!

What a nice necklace to inherit!
I'm guessing it's what is known as a 3.5 momme strand of Akoya cultured pearls, bought by many servicemen in Japan during the 1940s-1950s. Looks like some baroque shaped pearls near the clasp (or maybe that's just the way the light is catching the pearls and really they are round?)

See this thread, it may help you:

I recently bought a strand like this at a consignment shop and restrung it-- I urge you to restring it and wear it! See my thread:

Many thanks to Pearl Dreams and Pattye for their expertise and enthusiasm!

My father was stationed in Japan at the conclusion of WWII, so it's possible he brought the pearls home for his mother.

Pearl Dreams, what a find for $12.00! Enjoy your good fortune!!
