Fun finds! These are quahog pearls, and such a pretty purple color. Every now and then we get folks here who find pearls in clams and oysters.

Cooking isn't good for pearls, and given their petite size I do not think there is a market for them. But they are a very cool conversation piece. Some folks put them in little jewelry cage type lockets and wear them.

These have wonderful color...I recently found a very light lavender pearl in a quahog (cherrystone) clam...Sheri set it into an octo baby (the head is undrilled, so no damage to the pearl). Maybe you could use them for a pair of octo earrings? IMG_3851.jpgIMG_3854.jpg

I couldn't agree more with JP - I think a pair of octo babies would be the PUUUUURRRFECT setting for these lovely pearls!

And doesn't seem like if the steaming damaged the pearls much - such a great find!

Aww, they are precious! Please let us know if you do anything special with them.

Thank you all. I'll hold onto them and think of something I can do with them and you'll be the first to know.

Those are gorgeous! Can't wait to see what you do with them, what a fun find!
