New Face On The Gem Forums:
by Richard W. Wise

Pricescope.com, the world?s busiest gem forum has been sold. I was recently introduced to the new president and CEO is Andrey Pilipchak. Andrey took over in July of 2007. During a casual conversation with Pricescope founder Leonid Charny. ?He mentioned he is a little bit tired of running Pricescope and before you knew it I became the new owner.?

Pricescope is the six hundred pound gorilla on the internet. The site boasts 31,000 registered users. Pricescope?s reach contrasts with forums such as Gemologyonline with 1600 registered users and yourgemologist with 6,100 members. ?We average about 1,500-2,000 posts a day.? Andrey said in a recent interview, ?with over 350,000 unique visitors per month.?

FYI pearl lovers; Pricescope will be allowing discussions of pearls on the wedding forum.

From Pricescope:

On a trial bases only.

Pearls will be allowed to be posted in "Bride World Wide & Grooms Grooves" forum only under the additional conditions to the current policies:

1. Posts must relate to the "Bride World Wide & Grooms Grooves" category.

2. No discussion where pearls were purchased or can be purchased.

3. No outside links to pearls in any form.

4. Violations should be reported via the button. There is no reason for anyone to quote the policies to the violators. This will allow me to clean it up and reduce diluting the quality of the thread.

Somehow that doesn't seem like much progress for discussion of pearls. :(

Hopefully pearl lovers will continue to find their way here.

I wonder why those policies are in place there anyway... Maybe they got beat up by someone from a pearl forum once.

... diamonds and pearls have a heck of a lot in common, don't they. No surprise there. There's no similar pearl forum yet, of course, but if anyone could see that, it may well be the guys who have already done it once. D'oh!

Why can't people post about pearls on pricescope? I don't get it.

Why not discuss pearls on Pricescope. I really don't know but perhaps I should have asked.

The diamond business looks very sleazy to me. I'm not personally fascinated with diamonds at all. Looks like glass to me. And then when you add all the murders, political issues and the obviously baseless values of the rocks themselves. I think I'll stick with pearls. But then thats just my opinion.

I recall something about being banned for posting about the wrong thing on Pricescope--we have so much fun here and freedom--why go where pearls are such a small part of the conversation???

Old diamonds are okay - new ones are a snore for sure...BUT, PEARLS - old, new, babies, growing, forming are Sooooo much more fascinating.

Maybe they are a bunch of stagnate minds that can't think out of the box.

You all think out of the SHELL!

I still remember the day pearl discussions were banned over there! It happened right about this time:
https://www.pearl-guide.com/forum/pearling-industry-news/604-pricescope-members.html

I personally think it is a good thing pearls cannot be discussed there. The only reason I posted there in the first place was because consumer questions were met with such inept and incorrect answers, I felt I had to set the record straight.
